Onus falls on employers to prevent illegal working

The Immigration Asylum and Nationality Act of 2006, which came into force on the 29 February 2008 places employers under threat of substantial fines and even imprisonment if they are found guilty of employing an illegal worker.

At Beckett Asset Management we have created a range of model portfolio styles covering the majority of investment aims and risk categories, and these are shown below. However, all portfolios can be constructed to incorporate any specific requirements a client might have.

Asset allocations as at 31/03/2008

Adventurous Growth
The portfolio is structured to increase potential returns over and above a medium risk investment profile. It primarily consists of stock market based investments, both in the UK and internationally, including funds in specialist areas. Overall, short-term volatility risk will be high, and this portfolio style is also likely to have a high fund turnover. Investing primarily for capital growth, income orientated funds may also be held from time to time, however income yield is likely to be minimal.

Growth
This style of portfolio is suitable for an investor who accepts the normal risks of investing in the various markets and can tolerate the associated volatility. This style of portfolio primarily consists of stock market based investments, both in the UK and Internationally. Investing primarily for capital growth, income orientated funds may also be held from time to time, and income yield is likely to be low. The level of short-term volatility risk will be broadly in line with the UK stock market.

Income & Growth
The portfolio seeks to provide a regular income, but with the added benefit of potential capital and income growth over the medium to longer investment term. The portfolio has a lower equity proportion than the Growth portfolio and a lower risk/return profile. The portfolio will remain predominately income orientated in its investment selection, incorporating UK equities, Commercial Property and Fixed Interest Funds as appropriate. Growth orientated funds are also incorporated to assist in the preservation and growth of overall capital values. It will invest in overseas markets where good risk adjusted investment opportunities exist.

Income Portfolio
This portfolio is designed to provide a higher level of regular income than the income and growth portfolio strategy. It is predominantly invested in the UK, using Fixed Interest, UK Equity Income and Commercial Property Funds. The portfolio may also incorporate elements of capital growth orientated investments, both in the UK and overseas to assist in the preservation and growth of overall capital values. Investors in this style of portfolio accept the ordinary risks of investing in these various markets. This style of portfolio is likely to have the lowest level of stock market exposure of any portfolio style offered by Beckett Asset Management. If the investment income is being drawn from the portfolio, the scope for longer-term capital and income growth may be limited.
